Pranayama Sessions

The Roots of Breathwork: Pranayama

In recent years, conscious breathing has become a powerful trend , “breathwork” is now a practice embraced around the world. Yet all these modern techniques share a common root: Pranayama, the ancient yogic science of the breath.

The word Pranayama comes from Sanskrit: prana meaning life force or vital energy, and ayama meaning expansion or control. More than simply inhaling and exhaling, pranayama is the art of directing the vital energy that flows through us, using the breath as a bridge between body, mind, and spirit.

While both breathwork and pranayama aim to reconnect us with our inner vitality, their approach is different: Breathwork sessions are often practiced lying down, encouraging deep release and emotional expression. Pranayama, however, is traditionally practiced in a seated position, with the spine upright and the chakras aligned ( just as in meditation). This posture allows energy to flow freely through the subtle body, making pranayama not only a physical but also an energetic practice.
